Cherry Twinkles

This was one of the original cookies Mom baked that first year when it all started in 1951.


12 Cup Butter   Cream
14 Cup Sugar
1 Each Egg Yolk   Beat egg yolk, mix in grated orange peel, grated lemon zest, and lemon juice.
1 Tbsp Orange Peel
1 tsp Lemon Zest
1 tsp Lemon Juice
1 Cup Cake Flour   Stir in, and then chill until firm
18 tsp Salt
1 Each Egg White   Slightly beaten
12 Cup Walnuts   Finely chopped
1 Each Maraschino Cherries   Or candied cherries; one half per cookie.

Roll into 1/2" balls. Dip in egg white and roll in nuts. Place on greased cookie sheet. Press cherry half into the center of each cookie. Bake 325 degrees ~20 minutes.
